My Artist Statement

I would like to tell a story. My story on finding romance, giving in to earthly pleasures, losing romance and finding my way to self-worth again. It's a familiar story. Most people have experienced it. But this one is my personal statement. This is my canvas of LOVE, LUST and LOSS in my own digital palette.

All the colors I combined represent a collection of emotions for every chapter of the story. The bold and weak strokes show the bliss and misery outlined during that fruitful phase.

Hope is a recurring element in most of my pieces. A flower always blooms somewhere. People, events, and even songs are part of the creative process as I weave the story of my artworks, making the whole process a new experience altogether.

As I challenge myself to convey my message in digital form, I also wish to challenge everyone, especially women in this field to be bold, dare to express your innermost feelings!

SORE Opening night

Friday, October 23 2009 at the Outpost Restaurant

SORE is my first one-woman exhibit. I had mixed feelings about the opening night but it felt more like it's my wedding day (sans the groom). I was very excited and yet anxious at the same time. But for sure I was very prepared to open the door and show my artworks to everyone.

It was overwhelming to see a lot of people who came and greeted me. It felt good hearing sincere "congratulations" from my friends, family and even from strangers. I must've married the perfect man! Hahaha! But really, it was a genuine feeling of success. An accomplishment for myself.
with college budies pawpaw, toting & jyl

SORE was just not a success for myself, there were people who voluntarily made it happen for me. My deepest gratitude to the following people: Ian Zafra, for the program and the getting me through the early stages of preparation until everything was realised. Nonon Yee for curating my exhibit and teaching me a lot of stuff about doing an art exhibit not to mention framing all my artworks. Apiong Bagares for willingly offering his time as my lighting director and electrician at the same time. Kei Valmoria for writing those stuff i couldn't write for myself. Insoy Ninal for the free PR placement in Sunstar cebu. David Harris of BITE magazine for allowing me to show my boobs (SORE poster) on his magazine hahaha! John Paul Pabrua for putting my designs into the tees. Charo Lyn Roncenvalles for the lovely journals and made me feel like i just published a book. hehe Jude Gitamondoc for a unique experience on my creative endeavor. The Outpost restaurant for the cool venue. To my family who's support is unmatchable. And to all my friends and ex lovers(eherrrm) who became part of the whole creative process of SORE.

SORE runs until November 8, 2009.

LET'S DO A COLORING PROJECT

COLOR THEM FOR ME!!!
Hi guys! SA'KU BAGS and I thought i'd collaborate with YOU on my opening day for my exhibit (tomorrow OCT23). I filled one panel of plywood with my outlined drawings. I'd love for you guys to finish this panel for me.

it'd be better if you add more elements on the panel. there will be colored pens, brushes and other coloring stuff. if you want, you can bring your own coloring stuff as well.

SA'KU will then turn this into pouches after the exhibit. If you participated on the panel, then i'd be proud to have collaborated with you and find them in SA'KU BAGS!

P.S.
all NIPPLES are reserved to MR. APIONG BAGARES. hehehehehe

This will be the last artwork for my SORE set. The culmination of the soreness. hehehe I have been trying to finish this for the past few days. I can't seem to get what i really want. And so finally it's done. The texture is good. The feel is perfect. This is exactly how i want this to be. :)

Space

Another peek from the latest one i just finished. Space. Its about giving up and losing all hope. Allowing all pain to sulk and invade. Letting one's self to get lost in space and just end it all.

Love of One's Fate

Amor fati is a Latin phrase that loosely translates to "love of fate" or "love of one's fate". It is used to describe an attitude in which one sees everything that happens in one's life, including suffering and loss, as good. That is, one feels that everything that happens is destiny's way of reaching its ultimate purpose, and so should be considered good. Moreover, it is characterized by an acceptance of the events that occur in one's life. It is almost identical to the Jewish concept of Gam Zu Letovah (this too is for the best).

Freaky freaky

My exhibit is giving me so much pressure these days. Stressing me a lot too. Most of the time i am just blank with ideas for more artworks. I need some space. A break. haaayy

My hands are quick when i'm not pressured. This was done during a meeting. We were having a discussion about the office Halloween party. I was just busy doodling with something freaky, i dunno.
Which reminds me... i need to prepare the program for this party. pffft!
